Bio

Jennifer Alicia (she/they) is a queer, mixed Mi’kmaw and settler (German/Irish/Scottish) multidisciplinary artist originally from Elmastukwek, Ktaqmkuk (Bay of Islands, Newfoundland), now residing in Toronto. She is a two-time national poetry slam champion and member of Seeds & Stardust Poetry Collective. Her work has been featured in Canthius Magazine, NOW Magazine, and CBC. They recently presented an excerpt of their play To Go Home at the Weesageechak Begins To Dance 36 Festival. Jennifer Alicia co-edited The Condor and the Eagle Meet, which was released in May 2022 through Kegedonce Press.

Jennifer Alicia’s poetry has brought her to cities throughout Turtle Island, such as Vancouver, Chicago, Albuquerque, Denver, and Rio de Janeiro. She began her spoken word journey in Toronto in 2007 in the activist scene, but has been writing poetry since she was a child.

Jennifer Alicia’s debut chapbook Mixed Emotions published by Moon Jelly House is available now. They are currently working on a script for a play and a collection of poetry and short stories centered on home (Ktaqmkuk).
